Marie Johns has been anchoring TV 13 News since 1989. Hired at the age of 21 fresh out of school she took the weekend off, moved out of her college apartment and started work on the Monday after graduation in the Lehighton Studio. Marie was hired as a reporter, fill in anchor. The lead anchor at the time was pregnant and as Marie quickly learned, the best way to get your feet wet anchoring is to just do it. Within a month of her employment Marie was already filling in for a lead anchor battling morning sickness. Within three months Marie was anchoring full time.
A native of Toms River NJ, Marie spent most of her life in Point Phillip PA. She is a 1985 graduate of Northampton High School & in 1989 she graduated from Marywood College in Scranton PA with a BA in Radio/TV Communications and a BA in Theatre. In July of 1995 she gave birth to triplet daughters Madison Marie, Darby Shea and Avery Elizabeth. She continues to balance the duties of anchor & Mom, TWO full time jobs.
"I love my job for several reasons ... I never get bored ... News is never the same two days in a row ... and I love the people I get the chance to meet ... from the guy out on the street to our local, state and federal officials and even the occasional national figure visiting our viewing area. The friends I’ve made over the years are priceless!"
"TV 13 News is special...we were created to give local people strictly local news...when we hit a national story it darn well better have a local twist or we won't be covering it! We've gotten tremendous response from our viewers...especially when a national story is beaten to death by every other station...our loyal viewers know they can turn to us for a breath of fresh air!
