Friends and former classmates of a man from Monroe County who died during the Parkland, Florida school shooting gathered tonight to pay tribute to his memory.

49 year-old Chris Hixon was the Athletic Director and Wresting Coach at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. He was killed during the shooting while reportedly trying to disarm the gunman.

Hixon was a graduate of Pleasant Valley High School. People who knew him gathered at the high school including his brother.

Tonight's service featured an open mic for anyone to speak about their memories of Chris Hixon and a slideshow of photos from his time at Pleasant Valley.
