The State Attorney General is taking new steps to protect Pennsylvania consumers from becoming scam victims.

Attorney General Josh Shapiro's Bureau of Consumer Protection has launched a new text message alert system to help consumers combat scams.

Alerts will be sent to subscribers at least twice a month and will offer tips to avoid scams, warn about new scams, and send updates on consumer protection issues.

The new system is especially geared towards senior citizens as the attorney general says they are more likely to be targeted by scammers.

Consumers can sign up by visiting the attorney general's website and can opt out at any time via text message.

There is no fee to sign up.
