“Let Them Walk in Our Shoes”
2,180 pairs of shoes!!!!
On their way to U.S. Soldiers in Iraq
and needy American children in Arizona
Lehighton PA – January 2009
140 packages are on their way to U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq and needy children in Arizona on and near Indian Reservations.
The packages are a result of TV 13’s “Let Them Walk in Our Shoes” drive. Viewers and students from across the TV 13 area donated 2,180 pairs of new and slightly used children’s shoes, lots of winter clothing, blankets, books, school supplies and goodies for our soldiers too! A huge thank you to all the very generous people in our community for making our drive a huge success. “This is truly a worthwhile project and it would not be possible without some very dedicated staff members and the support of our generous communities. It is especially wonderful that the young children from our area schools have taken this project to heart and want to help other children,” Blue Ridge Communications TV-13 General Manager, Kim Bell said.
Collecting and packaging is only half the battle!!!
State Representative Keith McCall helped greatly with getting the packages to their destinations! He picked up the tab for a large portion of the shipping costs and helped us find even more funding to get ALL the packages on their way. Representative McCall presented our community service project to fellow legislators and the following are helping pay a portion of the shipping costs. Thank You!
State Senator Robert Mellow – 22nd District
State Representative Michael Carroll – 118th District
State Representative Mario Scavello – 176th District
State Senator Raphael Musto – 14th District
State Representative Keith McCall – 122nd District
State Representative Keith McCall is with us today to write that big check and see the packages off. "When the people of Carbon County come together, we can accomplish great things, and it’s fantastic that our young children have done such a great job to help children on the other side of the world and here at home," McCall said. "I want to commend Blue Ridge Communications TV-13 for making this program bigger and better than last year, and I'm sure we'll break records again next year."
** This is the second year for “Let Them Walk in Our Shoes” – last year we sent 604 pairs of shoes to U.S. Soldiers in Afghanistan.
