“Let Them Walk in Our Shoes!” Last year you helped us collect over 600 pairs of new and lightly used children’s shoes that were sent to National Guard Soldiers stationed in Afghanistan. The soldiers handed those shoes out to children in the Afghan villages. Many of those children had none. (see some pictures from last year below)

We’re ready to start again! This year we’ve enlarged the effort. All the elementary schools in the TV13 viewing area have been invited to participate in our drive. We’re also counting on all our loyal viewers and your church or community groups to help.

Several local soldiers are currently stationed in Iraq. They’re ready to hand out the shoes. We also wanted to keep some of the donations in the U.S. this year. So, we are in contact with two elementary schools in Arizona. One is on an Indian reservation. Their students could also use a helping hand.

TV 13 is asking you to gather up new or used children’s sized shoes or sneakers and drop them off at one of our studios or drop-off areas. We’re also collecting hats, gloves, school supplies and small toys like matchboxes and action figure type toys. Another new addition this year – some goodies for our soldiers – we’re told playing cards and chewing gum are among their favorites.
