Steel Import Tariff Imposed
President Bush passed a bill that will impose a 30% tax on steel being imported into our country over the next three years. The decision came after Bethlehem Steel workers, past and present, climbed aboard 9 buses last week and made the journey to Washington, D.C. There they met up with other industry workers from all over the country lobbying for the tax. The tariff is only temporary relief to help Bethlehem Steel and others rebound financially from the financial difficulties caused by the influx of cheap steel imports that began in 1997.
