The Second Annual "Adopt-a-Tree" decorating project brought the parks in downtown Lehighton to life last weekend. Now tree sponsors worry vandals are to blame for items missing from a number of trees.
Valerie Dailey and her husband tell news 13 their "Giving Tree" was a success last Christmas season. They hung hats, gloves, and scarves for children in need to take. Community members would replenish the tree after items were taken. This year, the tree was wiped clean several times and sponsors worry it could be vandalism because other trees have been tampered with.
The giving tree will now be used to display the wish lists of local animal shelter, and photos of animals who need homes. Tree Sponsored have teamed up with Lehighton Animal Hospital on third street, where donations can be dropped off.
