Social media has been buzzing over emergency gates the National Park Service installed last year. Five large, metal, swinging gates were setup throughout the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

Rumors have been spreading over local facebook groups, the Park Service were going to use the gates to shutdown the road to avoid winter cleanup.

Park Service officials have squashed those rumors, saying the gates will only be used during an emergency to shut specific sections of the road down.

They will be used exclusively to close part of the road during fires, accidents and even flooding. Officials from the park say anything else that is being said is totally untrue.
