The board of supervisors for Middle Smithfield Township unanimously approved ordinance 220 that gave first-responder volunteers credits towards township taxes.

Volunteers who contribute 50 hours or more can claim up to $250 towards their local earned income tax and 10% off of their township property taxes.

Mark Dwyer, the supervisor who brought this ordinance to the board, says this is a thank you for all the men and women who serve the township. He also hopes this will help with recruitment and retention of more volunteers.
