The Pocono Raceway is raising money this year to help the Pocono Mountain Regional Police fund their K-9 unit. To show their support, 15% of ticket sales through a promotional website will go to annual costs associated with maintaining the four-legged officers.

"Regional has told us 4,900 dollars is what it takes to train and feed a dog annually."

Ben May of the Pocono Raceway appreciates the work the police department does during race events, so they're giving 15% of all tickets purchased through www.poconoraceway.com/k9.

"They're here on site during our event weekend, and they keep us safe day in and day out." May said, "So there's a huge part of our life here at the raceway, fans life, and safety and security is a big part of our world these days especially at large events. "

The Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department foundation pays to keep officer Creed and Helo healthy and ready.

PMRP Chief Chris Wagner said, "We look to the foundation to support those yearly costs and that includes feeding the dogs, training, various equipment. And again, the foundation usually picks that up"

Chief Wagner says their K9 unit is just as important at community outreach as they are apprehending and sniffing out crime. The pooches bring citizens and officers together.

"They bridge that gap and they create opportunity for police officers and the community to interact, and that's vitall important"

May says it's important to be a good neighbor. "It's extremely important to us here, and we're all a family here in northeast PA, and we should look after one another"

Raceway officials said they're not going to stop at 4900 dollars, and will continue to donate all of 2019. If you want to purchase one of these tickets just visit www.poconoraceway.com/k9.
