Last night Jim Thorpe Borough Council listened to some disgruntled residents about a county building project. Some Jim Thorpe residents feel the Susquehanna Building Project, which would add a county office building and garage, could cause harm to existing buildings in Jim Thorpe.
After previously meeting with officials from St. Mark's Episcopal, which is roughly thirty feet from the construction zone, County commissioners have ensured TV13 there will no blasting at all. They also say they will have seismic monitoring in case vibrations get to be too much.
Some residents are asking for an independent study to be done, to see if surrounding buildings would be affected. They feel if it's the contractor doing the monitoring, there's potential to let the vibrations become too much.
Jim Thorpe Borough Council members say they will write a "strongly worded letter" to the commissioners asking for that independent study.
