A community in Monroe County has approved a tax incentive for volunteer firefighters. Smithfield township supervisors unanimously approved the new tax incentive last night. Volunteers will see their earned income tax reduced 250-dollars and volunteers who own a home in the township will see their municipal property taxes go down ten percent. Supervisors say it's not a huge savings but they hope it will boost the number of volunteers. The incentive will be available for active volunteer firefighters from Marshalls Creek, Shawnee and Delaware Water Gap fire departments.
