The red Poppy is a nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn by Americans since World War I to honor those who served died for our country in all wars.
On Friday, News 13 found the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lehighton American Legion with a table full of Poppies inside the Carbon Plaza Mall. All donations for the Poppies will be used to buy gifts for veterans at the Summit and Mahoning Nursing Homes.
"We need to do that for our veteran's, they keep our country free and we are honored to help," said LaRue Fritz.
On Thursday, Carbon County Commissioners proclaimed May 24th as National Poppy Day to commemorate our fallen heroes here in Carbon County.
