State police are still investigating the suspicious death of a Bushkill woman in Monroe County.
The body of Jeanette Sancho, 41, was found Saturday morning near a home on Lower Lakeview Drive in Middle Smithfield Township.
Residents who live in the area tell News 13 they are shocked to hear the incident happened so close to home.
"Disgusting, terrible. I mean right here in our backyard," said Marc Gerson of Middle Smithfield Township.
He was driving along Lower Lakeview Drive Saturday morning when he passed by some unusual police activity.
"Like five police cars I think and some detectives that were walking down a dirt road," said Gerson.
But he didn't think much of it.
"I didn't pay much mind to it. I figured something bad had happened, I kind of got that feeling," added Gerson.
News 13 found Gerson at Mignosi's Supermarket soon after he was told he had driven past the exact spot where Sancho's body was discovered.
"A friend of mine just told me about what it was that I saw, about a half hour ago, that a woman was found dead on Lower Lakeview. I'm blown away," said Gerson.
A man who didn't want to appear on-camera lives nearby. He describes the area as "quiet."
"It's so slow over here. Nothing ever happens here, nothing," he said.
Michelle Keller agrees. She lives in Bushkill, the same area police say Sancho is from.
"It's usually very busy here in the summer but overall it's usually good and quiet, no activity," said Keller.
"Crazy stuff. To have it so close is nuts," added Gerson.
Police have not yet released a cause of death or any other details. Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact the state police Stroudsburg barracks.
