The Tamaqua Salvation Army is helping people beat the heat.

A cooling room was open Friday for anyone in the community to come in and cool off.

The Salvation Army provided water and ice pops- all free of charge. Some people even stopped with the idea of helping others.

"We had one guy come in and grab about a dozen bottles of water to give out to the mailmen and cops out on the beat," said Captain John Luby.

In preparation of more extreme heat this weekend, the Salvation Army will be open Saturday, July 20th from noon until 5 p.m. on West Broad Street.
