Anticipation is building for two new anchor stores in East Stroudsburg.
People are buzzing about the new Giant and HomeGoods stores coming to Pocono Plaza.
And we’re told the construction is right on schedule.
East Stroudsburg resident Zoraida Camacho has never been to a HomeGoods store because until now, there’s never been one close by.
Camacho says, "You need something for the house real quick, you just come down here because we’re close by and don’t have to be traveling so far."
She’s one of the many people counting the days until the retail store and the new Giant both open in East Stroudsburg.
In January demolition began to remove the former Kmart at this end of the Pocono Plaza. By June the grocery store taking its place was starting to take shape. Now according to the construction supervisor, Giant’s grand opening is scheduled for November 15th.
East Stroudsburg resident Barbara Kresge says, "The Giant good because I don’t have to go all the way up to Mount Pocono when I live right up the road so I’m glad that’s coming in."
ESU Student Delaney Houdz says, "I’m one of the East Stroudsburg grad students so I’m originally from Hershey area and we have Giant all over down there. Having a Giant close to school is definitely nice since I live in an apartment. So going to get food will be more convenient."
Over on the other end, the manager of HomeGoods tells us they’re getting ready to open on November 3rd from 8AM-8PM.
We’re told the construction has been tough on the existing businesses but employees tell us they’re also looking forward to the grand openings.
Divas Hair Studio Stylist Angelna Garcea says, "It’s going to be really good for the business because we’re going to have a lot of new clients. Business is a little bit slow for now, a lot of people think we’re closed."
Shoppers agree the revitalization is just what the area needs.
East Stroudsburg resident Stan Miles says, "It’s good to see competition in the area. It’s good to see this particular mall growing again. It’s disturbing to live in town and see huge blocks of empty space."
Saylorsburg resident Kent Hoffman says, "I think it’s good for the area. It’s definitely an improvement from the store that was here. It went kind of belly up and now it’s bringing in business and people will get jobs."
Tobyhanna resident Shondaja Odum-Parker says, "I don’t live down here but I live in Tobyhanna and so far they’re making East Stroudsburg look really good."
The construction at the plaza also includes a Giant gas station and several new stores which haven’t been announced yet.
