Pocono township officials are working to make Tannersville safer, commissioners tell News13 are requesting money to fund sidewalk and lighting projects along route 611.
“Individual pedestrian traffic has increased drastically, and it’s dangerous when they’re walking along a highway," said Jerry Lastowski, President for the board of Commissioners. "We wanna make it safer for everyone that would like to walk," he added.
Latowski says the process will be anything but cheap, which is why the township is requesting just over 1.7 million dollars from the department of community and economic development.
“A lot of it depends on grant money, we don’t have the cash on hand to fund a major project like this. We have our grant writer out there to get more grants,” added Latowski.
