The Christmas season officially kicks off in the Pennsylvania Capitol with a connection to Carbon County.
This 20 foot tall Douglas Fir will be on display in the capitol rotunda through the holiday season. The state Christmas Tree Growers Association donates a tree each year- choosing this year's tree from Crystal Spring Tree Farm in Mahoning Township.
and it's not the first time crystal spring has been chosen, owner Chris Botek tells News 13 the farm has grown 25 trees over the years which have been displayed at the capitol, and say it's always an honor.
"It's a giant tree, this year it's about 20 feet tall, absolutely beautiful Douglas Fir, they're also putting one on the capitol steps which is also about 20 feet and then one big one in Soldiers Row," said Botek.
The official tree lighting ceremony will be held next monday at noon. It will soon be decorated with over 800 LED lights and 500 ornaments made by senior citizens and pre-schoolers from across the commonwealth.
