From Black Friday to Cyber Monday, retailers officially kicked off the holiday shopping season this past weekend.

But on Tuesday, the focus shifted to the holiday season of giving.

Giving Tuesday has become a global movement dedicated to our communities.

The United Way is one of many non-profits who participate annually.

When you donate to the Pocono Mountains chapter, directors say one dollar can leverage more than seven dollars in impact. And that happens locally right in Monroe County.

"We understand that many people are just one emergency away, one missed paycheck, one sick kid, one broken down car away from really truly needing help. So today we are extending an invitation to everyone in a little better place to make a donation on Giving Tuesday and really bring out the best in our community," said Sarah Jacoby of the Pocono Mountains United Way.

To donate to the Pocono Mountains United Way, you can head online to the non-profit's website or send a check by mail to its Stroudsburg office.
