The Pocono Mountain School District is speaking out against a state report which recommends not subcontracting the district school bus service to an outside firm.

The district has been negotiating a new contract with its bus drivers and other support staff for almost a year.

A third-party fact-finder was hired to suggest terms of a settlement.

After it was approved by union leaders, the school board rejected the report earlier this week.

The district says the rejection sends a strong message that its the taxpayers that matter.

In a news release, district officials say "The fact finder's failure to reasonably and responsibly address the issue of contracting out student transportation services left the majority of the school board with no alternative but to reject the fact finder's report in its entirety."

The district's support staff has been working without a contract since it expired on June 30th.
