A Luzerne County man is charged in connection with a 2018 fatal head-on crash on the Turnpike while driving under the influence.
According to a criminal complaint 68 year old Joseph Persico of Shavertown was arraigned Monday morning on charges of vehicular homicide, aggravated assault by vehicle, DUI and other related charges. State police say Persico was traveling south in the northbound lanes in Franklin Township in November of 2018.
He struck 50-year-old Paul Gerrity head-on, killing him. Gerrity's car spun into a third car, injuring that driver as well. Court paper work says police found a bottle of vodka in the car during the investigation and a blood test revealed Persico was nearly three times over the legal limit at the time of the crash. He is expected in court for a preliminary hearing later this month.
