There's confusion over the future of a golf course in Monroe County.

Terra Greens Golf Course in East Stroudsburg is opening this spring.

Back in November the Borough had plans to shut it down for good.

Terra Greens Golf Course Manager Bryan Zukawski says, "We’ll open probably the beginning of April if the weather continues to cooperate the way it’s done so far this winter."

Zukawski is happily gearing up for the season at Terra Greens. But he wants to make sure everyone else knows the municipal golf course is opening on Route 447.

Zukawski says, "There’s a lot of confusion between the paper article and word of mouth, some people think the golf course has been closed."

Back in November, East Stroudsburg Borough had plans to shut down the nine holes for good. But ultimately decided to make cuts instead.

Zukawski says, "Reduce my position to a seasonal position, non-benefitted."

According to council members, it’s been losing about 96 thousand dollars a year since 2013 and now there must be no budget overages. That’s why supporters hope to bring their a-game this season.

Zukawski says, "The ultimate goal is to make money. We have implemented a group called “Friends of Terra Greens” to try to generate some ideas on how we can increase revenue."

Besides offering Foot Golf for people who don’t want to swing a club and restructuring their price point, Zukawski tells us they have other ideas that might score a hole in one in attracting golfers.

Zukawski says, "We started a membership campaign for new members which is on our website. We also are going to implement a Friday night scramble, and possibly a mid-afternoon league or scramble."

Next door, Pub 447 also offers players deals to keep enjoying the day with some food and drinks. Staff says it would greatly hurt their business if those customers would no longer exist.

Pub 447 Kitchen Manager Jovan Rivera says, "We’re ready for Terra Greens to open on up. They give us lots of customers. We offer tons of specials on clams and seafood and whatnot."

We’re told the Borough will ultimately make another decision on this course’s fate at the end of the year.
