Monroe County residents can now figure out how much school property tax they'll be paying this September.
The results of a county wide reassessment are finally known as school districts finalized their budgets. The county commissioners say the new assessment spreads the taxes out among commercial and industrial entities rather than just residential areas.
"And it gives us an opportunity to level the playing field if you didn't feel your assessment was correct you were able to appeal it. So, we've gone to great lengths to level the playing field so we don't have to do this again for a little while," John Christy, Commissioner for Monroe County Commissioners, said.
County and local property tax notices were sent out earlier this year. School property tax bills will be sent out next month.
