Monroe County shines bright to show victims of domestic violence they are not alone.
Candles lit up courthouse square in Stroudsburg to honor victims and survivors. Women's Resources of Monroe County holds the candlelight vigil every year to support victims during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. A special exhibit called "the empty place at the table" allowed families of victims to donate place settings in remembrance of their loved ones who lost their lives due to domestic violence.
"We have that there as showing and honoring their lives and their legacies to show that we are here to support them. And hopefully we won't have to add anymore empty places at the table," Lauren Peterson, Executive Director of Women's Resources Monroe County, said.
Women's Resources has a 24-hour hotline for anyone in an abusive relationship who needs to talk to a crisis counselor. The number is 570-421-4200.
