A refurbished home used as transitional housing for veterans is unveiled today in Schuylkill County.

"We Agape You" a non-profit organization that creates employment and housing opportunities for vets revealed the newly renovated property in Pottsville this afternoon. The home was donated by Doreen Hancock and her siblings to honor their late father's wish to give back to veterans in the community. "It's emotional and rewarding. Definitely rewarding. And we know how pleased our parents would be, both of them would be very pleased that this house is being put to good use."

The president of the non-profit says the basic necessity of shelter allows homeless vets to get back control of their lives. The organization also helps vets find work so they can eventually support themselves. "Whoever it is, hypothetically, did not have housing, did not have employment and now you have it, it's like hitting the lottery. Some of the people are so grateful they stay with me, they're still with me ten years now."

Simmons says the transitional home can house three vets and an upstairs room will be used as emergency overnight stays by vets looking for clothing and shelter.
