When you're loading up on snacks in your grocery cart this weekend for the Superbowl, local Girl Scouts hope you pick up some extra canned soup to donate.
Girl Scouts with service unit 728 are collecting canned goods for their annual "Souperbowl" soup collection. This weekend girl scouts will be outside Country Harvest grocery store in Palmerton collecting non-perishable canned goods like soup, pasta, vegetables, and fruit. The Girl Scout's local community specialist says not only does the food drive help the community it teaches the girls the value of helping others.
"Pushing the community forward and keeping the community forward is something near and dear to girl scout's hearts and the girls who participate see that one act of kindness can equal something even greater and bigger. One canned good can feed a family or be a meal for a family."
The collected goods will benefit CACPAC food pantry and this year's goal is three thousand cans.
Collection starts Friday at 3pm and ends at 7pm. On Saturday and Sunday, collecting begins at 8am and runs into the evening.
