Special Olympics is raising money a little differently this year. They are going "burrr-tual."
Every year Special Olympics PA hosts eight statewide polar plunges to benefit its year-round sports programs. Due to COVID-19 plans have changed a bit, but the chill of icy cold water remains the same. You can support the Special Olympics by popping a balloon filled with icy cold water over your head and sharing your video on social media. Then challenge all your friends and family to do the same.
"Polar Pop is a great chance for all of us to do something to support Special Olympics and our athletes."
One athlete who's been participating in events since he was a kid has felt that support and says the Special Olympics is about more than just competing.
"It means a lot to me because I get to see all my friends I used to hang around with, talk to them and mostly just focus and compete and make some new friends."
For participants who want to support athletes without getting cold and wet, you can register as a "hibernating bear" and make a one-time donation of fifty dollars. Whether you choose to get wet or to stay dry visit papolarpop.org to register and to receive more information.
