One Monroe County school district says thank you to some unsung heroes. These employees help feed the stomachs and the minds of students in the Stroudsburg Area School District.
Tomorrow marks national "school lunch heroes day". In honor of all their hard work, the employees received new aprons to celebrate. The district's director of dining services tells us when the pandemic hit, the staff went above and beyond to ensure no child would have to worry about where their next meal would come from.
"There's a lot of feeding going on, we are bagging meals for families of children that are staying home during this time, we also feed on site, and we also bus meals around to families that are in need," Nancy Franks, Dining Services Director, said.
The staff say they love interacting with the students on a daily basis, and they're excited to get an extra thank you.
"It feels good, it feels great! It's about time haha, but it feels great," Daisy Smith, Server, said.
There are over 40 school lunch employees being recognized throughout the district.
