A hot, sunny weekend brought lots of visitors out to Beltzville State Park making for a tough couple of days for park rangers.
It was quieter today, but yesterday the park hit capacity forcing staff to close the main gate at noon. DCNR has said several new measures will be in place this summer to control crowds including shutting down Pohopoco Drive at Green Street and Pine Run Road when the park reaches capacity... but Beltzville's manager says right now they don't have enough rangers to implement that closure.
"We're in the process of hiring still, we have start dates for a couple of them and a couple more we're waiting on start dates for so the positions are being filled, we have a couple more being posted as well."
The park is also working on new protocol for the Pine Run boat launch to keep picnickers out of that area.
