Seniors happily gather together after a long year of isolation.

The Monroe County Agency on Aging held a "Senior Spelling Bee" this afternoon at the Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville. They competed for $100 and $50 gift cards. Towards the end of the contest the words became pretty challenging, but the skilled spellers made for a lively competition.

"We go sometimes over the time frame that it was supposed to end, and it's because of that, because we have a lot of participants remaining with the contest who are good spellers," Mara Cruz, Lotus Center Manager, said.

Cruz says the residents are happy to come back to the annual competition after they were forced to cancel the event last year.
