An 82 year old man on a journey of a lifetime makes a stop in Monroe County.
About 3,0000 people attempt the full hike along the Appalachian trail from Georgia to Maine each year. However, only about one in four people actually complete the trek.
News 13's Emily Kress caught up with MJ Eberhart also known on the trail as, "Nimblewill Nomad," as he is well on his way to completing the full Appalachian Trail for the third time in his life. When he finishes this time around, he'll be the oldest person to do so at 82 years old.
Nimblewill Nomad started his journey on the Pinhoti Trail in Alabama back in February. One step at a time, he's making his way though 2,190 miles of the AT. He tells us the challenge of the trail keeps him coming back for more.
"It takes a deep down commitment. it takes patience, I'm out here 147 days now, you cant just do that on a casual whim... it's something you have to plan and be really dedicated to accomplish," explains Nimblewill
You can follow his journey complete with journal entries and photos here.
