A Monroe County church unveils a newly restored pipe organ. Making it the largest in our area.

Inside the First Presbyterian Church of Stroudsburg sits a newly restored piece of history.

"We were having difficulty with the older organ, and we knew we were going to have to rebuild it at some point," explains Music Director Patricia thorStraten-Mohr.

The restoration project began in 2015. During that time, the church had the opportunity acquire another historic pipe organ from a church in Easton.

"Our pipe organ was built in 1926 by the Estey Organ Company and the organ we were offered was built in 1904 by the Steere Organ Company, so we were able to combine the two historic instruments and create a new one," said organist Michael Capone.

The enlargement of the pipe organ now makes it the largest in the county.

"There are not a lot of pipe organs in Monroe County since we are a small county. we know the largest organ was at one of the churches here in Stroudsburg, but now it's not as large as this one," said Capone.

An inaugural concert featuring renowned organist Bruce Neswick will be held on October 24, 2021 at 4 p.m. Anyone interesting in attending the free show can call the church office at 570-421-7751 to reserve tickets.
