The jig is up for Monroe County residents who tried to avoid the property reassessment by building an addition after it was completed. The county commissioners just approved a contract for an aerial flyover. If someone put an addition on a house, built a new house or put up a barn, the pictometry image will pick it up and put it in a different color to determine whether or not the property should have different taxes…

Monroe County Commissioner John Moyer says, "Every time there is a reassessment, we realize we picked up properties that people never bothered to get a building permit for so taxes on whatever the additions are go unpaid for for a period of time. This pictometry will allow us to compare the results that we get in this year’s flyover with the one that was done in 2020 to ensure that we pick up anything that’s an addition to the property."

After the flyover is completed, municipal zoning officers will be sent out to the properties in question if they do not have the proper building permits.
