From delivering newspapers in his hometown of Hulmeville, PA in Lower Bucks County to playing a news reporter in a high school play, one might say George Roberts was destined for the news business.
George is the senior news anchor for Eyewatch News 13. He can be seen Monday through Friday on the Pocono Report at 5 & 6 PM, and the Valley Report at 5:30 & 6:30 PM. He also handles the anchor duties for the 10 PM Night Report. And he can be seen anchoring the CNN Headline News Local Edition for Blue Ridge Communications.
In his early years, George would listen to the Boss Jocks on AM Radio Stations in Philadelphia (like WFIL, WIBG). He wrote for his high school newspaper and yearbook.
While in college, he got his first radio job in Mount Pocono. After graduating from the University of Scranton in 1982, he worked full-time in radio throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania and the Lehigh Valley. He was named the Poconos Favorite Disc Jockey in 1984 by PM Magazine.
George began his television broadcasting career in 1988. He was the first news anchor hired for the new Eyewatch News Team on TV 13. Over the years, he’s had the opportunity to interview many stars, politicians and newsmakers.
In 1995, TV 13 teamed George up with Asa Dickinson for ComputerWise. The weekly LIVE show helps beginners tackle computers and the Internet. It can be seen on various cable stations throughout Pennsylvania.
George has been nominated for regional Emmys, and has won several Communicator Awards and Telly Awards for his work on a variety of TV shows.
He volunteers for several area organizations including the United Way of Monroe County and Pocono Family YMCA. He helps raise money through TV auctions for Pocono Medical Center and the American Red Cross. And he sits on the board of the Local Emergency Planning Commission.
